About the artist...

Since 1976, Monta Black Philpot has lived in the Ouachita Mountains as have four previous generations of her family. Her art seeks to capture the personality as well as the physical characteristics of each subject to achieve not only a likeness but also that special essence of the subject. With over 38 years of painting and drawing experience, Monta has a long-standing committment to quality in her work and to customer satisfaction.

Monta's paintings and drawings have been included in national and international juried shows in New York, California, and Canada. She has had solo shows at art centers, museums and public buildings. Her portraits have been on exhibit at the Thomas Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and at the Russell Senate Rotunda in Washington, D.C.

Born in Texas, Monta attended Southern Methodist University, Southwest Texas State University, Del Mar College and received her degree in art from Texas A&M University. She established a growing college art program and taught college level courses for 8 years. She also teaches private art classes.
